Bruce Timm Hasn’t Left DC Comics Animation Just Yet; Will Collaborate on Superman Anniversary Short

Bruce Timm recently stepped down from his executive producer position at the DC Universe Animated devision of Warner Bros, give many children of the 80s and 90s a very nostalgic sad. True, the DC Animated Universe, which included shows for Batman, Superman, Static, Batman Beyond, and the Justice League, hadn’t had a new installment in a while, but Timm’s departure just reminded us that that era was over and done with.

But the artist is giving Superman, at least, one more go. After all, it’s the big guy’s seventy-fifth birthday pretty soon.

Timm will be working with Zach Snyder, Jay Oliva, Peter Girardi (both veterans of DC animated properties), Geoff Johns, Mike Carlin (both DC comics writers and editors) on a short tribute to Superman.

Details for the short are being kept secret (maybe in a lead vault?), but insiders tell Heat Vision Snyder envisioned one continuous shot, without edits, that’s an homage to the Man of Steel and his many iterations over the past 75 years: Max Fleischer’s cartoons, on-screen portrayals by George Reeve and Christopher Reeves, iconic versions drawn by artists Wayne Boring, Curt Swan and Neal Adams, on up through Henry Cavill’s interpretation in Man of Steel.

DC plans to unveil the animatic for the short at San Diego Comic Con, while the whole thing will premiere in the fall.
