‘The Boys’: Can Soldier Boy Kill Homelander?
Soldier Boy (not Soulja Boy) is here and he's deadly.
The Boys may be about superheroes, but it’s seriously not only for people who love Marvel movie-type heroes. The show is bloody and graphic, and it depicts people with super abilities in a way that feels more real. Rather than your typical do-good heroes, most of the supes (as they are called in the show) are assholes. They aren’t from another planet or otherworldly in any capacity either. It’s all about science in the world of The Boys as superheroes are made by way of Compound V.
The Boys is based on comics of the same name and has been a big hit on Amazon Prime. It follows a group of vigilantes called “The Boys” who go after supes who abuse their powers. Currently, the show is in its third season and there’s a noticeable step up from season 2. Even though it’s tremendously satisfying to watch a Nazi get stomped, season 3 is the best season of the show so far. There’s a darker tone and striking social commentary that blends with the comedic beats the show is known for. Homelander (Antony Starr) is more out of control than ever before, but has he met his match this season?
Season 3 introduced an anticipated comic character, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). In the comics, he’s naive and very cowardly. Meanwhile, the live-action version of him covers his insecurity and fear with macho behavior. Ben (SB’s birth name) became Soldier Boy in the ‘40s, fought in World War II (won’t spoil his level of uselessness but yeah), is a complete asshole, and was presumed dead since the ‘80s. But can he kill Homelander?
Potentially.
It’s no secret that Homelander is one of the more feared supes because of his strength, instability, and bitch baby behavior. But he’s genuinely nervous about Soldier Boy after getting a beatdown from him, Butcher (Karl Urban), and Hughie (Jack Quaid). A beatdown that could’ve resulted in losing his abilities if Soldier Boy successfully fired his Compound V energy. As far as killing Homelander, it’s yet to be seen if he’ll be up for the task now. With the reveal that Soldier Boy is Homelander’s father, which wasn’t a storyline in the comics, it’s hard to say what’s coming next. Physically, it’s quite possible for another battle between them to result in Homelander’s death. But unless SB is for sure in season 4, he may be the one to die.
