Hey, It Got as Cold as Mars in Canada, so Living in Canada Makes You Pretty Much Amazing

But if Canadians are so warm and friendly, why is Canada so cold?

Hey, did you know there’s a vast, uninhabitable, frigid land ready to be explored if we only look up? No, not up to outer space and Mars. Up north, to Canada. Yup. Our northern neighbors recently found out what it’s like to live on the surface of Mars (kind of) as temperatures plummeted to the same levels the curiosity rover is braving on the red planet.

In fact, according to curiosity’s instruments, Mars got up to all the way up to -29 C on Tuesday, which is relatively comfortable next to the wind chill in parts of Canada’s Manitoba province, which made the air feel as cold as -53 C. For reference, that’s cold enough to freeze mercury. Yeah, it was so cold that your thermometer would pretty much just give up and die.

It also comes pretty close to the night time temperature on Hoth of about -60 C, so don’t be surprised to find a few tauntauns that have been used as shelter.

But hey, look on the bright side, Canada. You’re like astronauts! Mars One has hundreds of thousands of people desperate to win a chance to experience what you guys are getting for free. That’s comforting right?

Not to mention the fact that you still have an atmosphere to breathe, so it’s not exactly like you’re living on a distant planet inhospitable to life. Just sort of. That’s pretty hardcore, Canada. Respect.
