When they first announced that Captain Marvel would be a ’90s period piece back in July of 2017, I half-jokingly, half-optimistically wrote, “hopefully [this] means we get to see a short-haired Carol walking around in flannel and ripped jeans and punching things. Queerbait me, Marvel, I’m ready.”

Apparently, the good folks in the costume department heard me.

New set photos from Captain Marvel have surfaced on Twitter, and they are gloriously grungy and period and muscle-tee’d. I love them so much.

For instance, check out this tucked-in T-shirt look on Brie Larson who plays the title hero, Carol Danvers:

Or here’s Larson similarly showing off her guns and Guns ‘N’ Roses shirt.

Lastly, here’s a look at Lashana Lynch lookingly similarly stylish and badass. (Please be playing Monica or Maria Rambeau.)

All told, these outfits look gay as hell, and I’m so glad I successfully prophesied the coming of this aesthetic. Long may it live.

Captain Marvel follows the ’90s origin and adventures of Carol Danvers, who becomes the superhero Captain Marvel. We don’t know a ton about the details of the plot, but we do know that it will concern the Kree-Skrull war and feature both a new Kree villain and the return of some Kree foes from Guardians of the Galaxy. Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg will also play younger versions of their existing MCU characters, Nick Fury and Agent Coulson (respectively).

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
