And Now, Here’s Carrie Fisher Slapping Oscar Isaac More Than 40 Times

In The Last Jedi, General Organa takes Poe to task after he defies her direct order, slapping the flyboy commander before demoting him. The scene required many takes, all of which are helpfully compiled in this gag reel.

Oscar Isaac and Carrie Fisher are consummate professionals, because they just keep going for the slap, take after take after take. (If you’ve forgotten when this moment occurs, it’s at the movie’s start, after Poe turns off his comm when Leia orders him to return to the rebel fleet instead of continuing his attack on the First Order dreadnought ship.)

Compounding what must’ve been a tricky scene to film, director Rian Johnson chimed in after the gag reel’s release, revealing that this all took place during Isaac’s first day working on The Last Jedi. Even for actors in space operatic adventures, this must’ve seemed like an unorthodox introduction to the workplace.

Welcome to The Last Jedi, Oscar! Now you will be slapped over and over again by a Star Wars legend. A cracking good introduction to the set?

There’s some other fun content herein—like John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran palling around, John Boyega slipping seamlessly from Finn’s accent into his own (why they didn’t keep Boyega’s British accent I’ll never understand), BB8’s baby, line bloopers, and general adorableness. There’s even a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Finnpoe moment seemingly instigated by Isaac, as he joins in on a Finn/Rey hug.

All in all, it looks like the actors sure had a good time making The Last Jedi. We should all be so lucky as to get slapped by Carrie Fisher.
