But it still won’t be available on Amazon Prime.

The Hollywood Reporter has the announcement that J.K. RowlingsThe Casual Vacancy will be coming to the American small screen in the form of a three episodes miniseries from HBO. This bucks another announcement that the BBC had reached an exclusive deal for the television adaptation of the series, according to the Reporter, the project will be jointly helmed between HBO, the BBC, and Rowling.

Rowling will executive produce the mini via her Bronte Film and Television production company that she runs with Neil Blair, her longtime literary agent and producing partner. Blair is also on board to exec produce alongside Paul Trijbits (Saving Mr. Banks,Dancing on the Edge) and Rick SenatSarah Phelps (EastEnders, BBC’s Great Expectations) will pen the mini, which will be produced by Ruth Kenley-Letts (The Hour). Jonny Campbell (Eric & Ernie) will direct.

The announcement remains unclear as to whether this well and the same as the project announced by the BBC in December of 2012, or if it is merely the result of an arrangement between the BBC, Rowling, and HBO to bring the miniseries to production. But if I had to guess… I’d say that it’s probably the latter. Been long enough, BBC! Time to get that ball rolling. Production is slated to begin this summer in South West England.
