Hunger Games Sequel Catching Fire Has Millionaire Screenwriter
May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor
We heard rumors of this news a few months ago but today it’s official. The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, now has a screenwriter and it’s not the book’s author Suzanne Collins.
Golden Globe and Oscar winner Simon Beaufoy has been tasked with transferring Collins’ sequel for the big screen for Lionsgate. Beaufoy won his awards in 2008 for writing Slumdog Millionaire. He’s also written The Full Monty and last year’s 127 hours.
There’s really not much that can be said about the plot of Catching Fire without ruining just about everything from The Hunger Games. Needless to say, it’s just as intense and exhilarating as the first.
The Wrap says that director of The Hunger Games, Gary Ross, will be supervising the script as well as directing the sequel. Ross, who worked on the script for the first film with Collins, originally intended to write an outline and script it with her again, but the post production schedule on The Hunger Games made that too difficult. Hopefully she’ll still have a hand in it somewhere down the line.
We’re still waiting to see The Hunger Games released on March 23 of this year but Catching Fire will hit theaters Nov. 22, 2013.
