Anne Hathaway Calls Catwoman Costume A “Psychological Terrorist,” Michelle Pfeiffer Agrees
This Makes Sense
Christian Bale’s Batman costume was particularly unforgiving for the actor. He was recently quoted saying the costume almost caused him to pass out on set but he isn’t the only one from Christopher Nolan’s trilogy who had clothing issues. Anne Hathaway just referred to hers as a “psychological terrorist.” Direct quote. Unsurprisingly, she’s also not the only Catwoman actress to take issue with the outfit. Batman Returns’ Michelle Pfeiffer wasn’t very comfortable in hers either. More details, including Pfeiffer’s possible return to the role, after the jump!
I doubt there’s many people out there who would say wearing a Catwoman costume is easy but these gals really put the most descriptive (and horific) images in my mind.
“It was probably really unhealthy and it would literally just start to squeeze my skin,” Pfeiffer told E! Online about her time in the famous suit. “I was only allowed to wear it for so many hours.”
Meanwhile, Hathaway spoke with Allure Magazine about her diet and work out regimens for both The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables.
“[The costume] was a psychological terrorist,” Hathaway said. “The suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit…It dominated my year. I went into the gym for ten months and didn’t come out.”
Yes, I can imagine it now. You’re cast in one of the most famous roles, in one of the most famous film series, and are tasked to wear one of the most unforgiving costumes in history. I can see how that would screw with someone’s mind.
So what of Pfeiffer reclaiming the Catwoman title down the road?
“Probably, if they asked me,” the actress said of her willingness to play Selina Kyle again, but added, “It’s unlikely that they’re going to ask me.”
She doesn’t seem to be campaigning for the role though. Of Hathaway’s version she said, “She looks fantastic.”
Could you ever see Pfeiffer playing Catwoman again? Perhaps in a film version of The Dark Knight Returns?
