It’s Impossible Not to Smile at Chadwick Boseman Surprising Black Panther Fans

Chadwick Boseman surprises Black Panther fans

Recommended Videos

It’s easy to discern Black Panther‘s impact from the movie’s growing box office total alone, but things got a bit more personal when star Chadwick Boseman stopped by The Tonight Show. Not only was it wonderful to see their excitement when Boseman stepped out to greet them in what’s become a pretty routine celebrity surprise, but their words of gratitude beforehand were incredibly touching.

That’s not always the case when discussing superhero movies, as much as we love them.

Many of the fans made mention of what the movie meant to them as people of color, with one man saying he was happy to see a “great American superhero movie with people that look like me.” Another mentioned how represented he felt, especially since his father is a scientist from Ghana, and another recurring point of praise was how the movie’s women were presented.

We all know these are things that Black Panther did well and have been discussed endlessly in reviews and opinion pieces, but hearing it directly from theatergoers is even better. You can see on Boseman’s face right away, during the first fan’s speech, the seriousness with which he appreciates the impact his work has had on people. But it’s also a fun movie and an occasion for joy, and there are plenty of laughs to be had—especially with one particularly hilarious woman who’s ready for her own future in show business.

There’s almost as much to love here as in the movie itself. Enjoy!
