Oh, No: Charlie Cox Might Have Blown a Han Solo Movie Audition Because of Daredevil
Apparently Charlie Cox is just so good at playing Daredevil that he may have blown what he believes to be an audition for the Han Solo Star Wars Story movie. No, it wasn’t because he started jumping around punching, kicking, and falling on things (though let’s be honest, that’d actually make for a solid Han Solo audition). It was actually because he got so used to playing a blind character that he totally failed to make eye contact with the casting director.
Cox shared his story in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. After mentioning how happy he was that he has a role where he gets to make eye contact with other people (Incognito, off-Broadway), he relayed the painfully awkward (yet somehow adorable) tale:
I had gone to an audition—one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot—and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.
I don’t know if I can stress this enough: ouch. I am so sorry, Charlie Cox. Don’t beat yourself up too much! I imagine you’ll do that enough on the set of Daredevil anyway. Well, now we get to sit around and imagine a Young Han Solo movie starring Cox. It’s heartbreaking to think about because he really would have worked so well, I think—you know, if you could get over that mental image of Cox as Matt Murdock.
