Things We Saw Today: Chris Hemsworth Is … Hulk Hogan? Okay????
If you grew up in a family that loved wrestling and/or you’re a fan yourself, you know a lot about Hulk Hogan. Maybe too much. Hulkamania is a very real thing and I have had to watch my brother attempt to rip a shirt off time and time again (all failed unless cut slightly to make it easier). But how to do you get from “Hulk Hogan” to “Chris Hemsworth”?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Thor star is set to play Hogan in a new movie. The story is said to focus on the rise of Hulk Hogan and the creation of Hulkamania more than Hogan’s problematic later years. From director Todd Phillips, the film will look at the wrestling legend at a time when wrestling movies seem to be back on the rise (Fighting With My Family about wrestler Paige and her climb into WWE fame is about to hit theaters).
Do we need this movie? Absolutely not. But then again, maybe we can get biopics of Ric Flair and the Undertaker too and just go back to the 80s and 90s of wrestling royalty. Might I suggest anyone, anyone at all, other than Hulk Hogan, whose story has many toxic elements?
Chris Hemsworth, for what it’s worth, we don’t like this for you.
