Christoph Waltz Might be the (Non-Muppet) Star of the Next Muppets Movie

it's time to play the music

It’s time for a hearty Kermit flail: Christoph Waltz is apparently in negotiations to be one of the human stars of the next Muppets movie.

YAAAAAAAAAYY!!!!!

What we know about the film so far is that it’s a “crime caper” set in Europe; The Hollywood Reporter notes that Waltz is in talks to play an Interpol inspector and that other stand-out human roles will include “a Russian femme fatale and a male lead whose intentions are always in question.”

Sounds fun to me. The Muppets director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller are returning to the franchise for this yet-unnamed film, though star/co-writer Jason Segel is not. It’s not yet been announced whether Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie will come back to write the songs, though if he doesn’t I just might cry.

Waltz is best known for playing Nazi Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds, a role not known for its… er… Muppet-esque qualities. But for proof of Waltz’s comedic chops and his willingness to engage in a little lighthearted self-mockery (a must for any Muppets actor), check out the Jimmy Kimmel Live sketch where he talks about his favorite role: Der Humpink.
