Settle in, Folks: Captain America: Civil War Is the Longest Marvel Movie Yet

Recommended Videos

How will Captain America: Civil War fit in all of those characters, including the introductions of newcomers like Black Panther and Spider-Man? The answer is simple: make the movie the longest one yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That … might not be the right answer, but it’s definitely the simplest one.

Civil War clocks in at 2 hours and 26 minutes, or 146 minutes, so make sure to schedule your bathroom break(s) accordingly. The first Avengers was 143 minutes long, while Avengers: Age of Ultron was 142 minutes; both of those movies also had to perform the tricky balancing act of juggling tons of characters, introducing new ones, and still ensuring the audience wouldn’t get bored by the proceedings.

Part of what made Avengers so charming, to me, was my own surprise that it worked at all — although by Age of Ultron, the shine had worn off the apple a little bit. Meanwhile, DC’s Batman v Superman is planning to come in at an even longer runtime than Civil War2 hours and 31 minutes. That’s a lot of superhero stuff.

What do you all think? Do you think 2 and a half hours seems about right for one of these big tentpole movies?
