Benedict Cumberbatch & Tom Hardy Rumored For Doctor Strange, Channing Tatum Suggests Solo Gambit Film
hold on to your butts
Gotta say, those are two names I did not expect to hear. Read on for just how solid this information is, what details Channing Tatum is revealing about his upcoming turn as Gambit, and Mark Ruffalo hinting at more Hulk.
Deadline is throwing Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy into the ring to play Marvel’s Doctor Strange. And that’s well, pretty much all they give.
“These two guys aren’t the only ones in the mix, but let’s face it, they are both poised to become major stars. Hardy, by way of playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, is closer,” they write. “Both of them have been lining up movies left and right, so scheduling might be an issue. We’ll see who Marvel ultimately lands, but it’s hard to go wrong either way here if one of these guys get the job.”
Sticking with Marvel Entertainment for a moment, Ruffalo was speaking with Total Film about The Avengers: Age of Ultron. “[My role’s] even bigger than last time, and it’s more complex and it has more layers and a bit more arc,” he told them, adding, “I’m really tripping on the technology of this motion-capture stuff… now I just completely embrace it and see it as this other exciting place we can go as performers.”
In the X-Men realm Tatum, basically confirmed as playing Gambit (although he makes sure to tell everyone who asks him about it they aren’t 100% set), was speaking more about the role to MTV.
“Creatively, we’re starting to chug forward. Obviously there’s nothing [official],” Tatum told MTV. “There are only conversations and dreams right now, really.”
Seeing as how they’re still having conversations, Tatum doesn’t know exactly what will happen with the character, though he does know what he’d prefer.
“We’ve talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the ‘hero, superhero movie.’ Because Gambit is not your typical hero,” he said. “He’s a thief. He walks on the gray. I’m hoping we can change it a little bit, and then ultimately feather into the other ones.”
The next X-Men film confirmed is X-Men: Apocalypse.
