Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Set Has a Ridiculous Amount of Detail
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child set designer Christine Jones took Pottermore behind the scenes to give a look at how the set of the play was put together.
The Harry Potter Play Twitter states that the Thomas Wolfe quote, “Few buildings are vast enough to hold the sound of time” inspired the set, which suggests a lot of symbolism hidden in the imagery.
In a short video, Jones talks about the craftsmanship on the set and we get glimpses of hand-carved lantern-holders, wooden panelling, and a gorgeous metal arch that captures the cycles of the moon. From the luggage cases to the Hogwarts-themed wallpaper, there’s a lot to admire about the efforts put into creating the production. We also catch a bit of movement director Steven Hoggett at work on a huge staircase and director John Tiffany.
The Tony Award-winning set designer said she was “overwhelmed” at first, as she grew very attached to the project:
I didn’t expect to get as emotional as I did. But I think we all have been working on this for over a year and just have so much invested in it.
There’s just this feeling that we’re working with people we love, on something we love, for people we love. And there’s a lot of emotions that have become buried within the fabric on the making of this.
On one level, I love hearing more and more about the production of Cursed Child. On the other hand, it also makes me so sad I’m not able to see it!
