Daisy Ridley Reportedly Being Eyed for Lara Croft Tomb Raider Role

Recommended Videos

While much of the conversation around the Tomb Raider movie still remains very nascent, it seems that they’re already having a chat about who should play the intrepid archaeologist, Lara Croft. Daisy Ridley’s name features pretty heavily on that list, according to a Deadline source. No other names have been dropped yet, but it’s definitely got us thinking about the direction Warner Bros. might be taking the movie.

You’ll remember that the Tomb Raider game reboot featured a much, much younger grad student Lara Croft on her way to becoming the adventurer we all know her as. It seems logical that the folks behind the movie would want to cash in on the positive critical reception that the video game reboot enjoyed, doesn’t it? If they can capture the same feeling that the video game stirred up in players, then they might have a pretty decent reboot on their hands–thus making Ridley the reigning queen of reboots, I suppose.

The last Lara Croft, Angelina Jolie, starred in two Tomb Raider movies: 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. Neither of those movies made quite the big box office splash that was expected of them. Maybe a reboot is exactly what the movie side of the franchise needs, eh?

Tell us: who do you think should take up the Lara Croft mantle?
