Dan Aykroyd to Un-Ruin Some Childhoods by Appearing in Paul Feig’s Ghosbusters

OK, Dan Aykroyd appearing in the new Ghostbusters will probably do absolutely nothing to silence its detractors—unless it turns out to be a sequel instead of a reboot, but we already know that’s not happening/not the real reason people are upset—but it’ll still be a great nod to the original, and it’s one he confirmed in a recently deleted tweet.

Entertainment Weekly caught a screencap of the tweet before it was taken down (everyone together now: “the Internet is forever”), and it read,

On GB set shooting my scene with funny beautiful Kristen Wiig Lady GB’s are adorable, hilarious and badass exhilarating! #ghostbusters

The tweet may have been deleted, but EW confirmed with Aykroyd’s reps that he’ll appear in the movie, so why the secrecy? Was this all a bait and switch, and the movie will be a sequel? Aykroyd specifically says “my scene,” so it sounds like he’ll only just pop in there appear briefly, so I don’t think that’s likely. Maybe he deleted it because he rethought whether sticking in the words “beautiful” or “adorable” had really been a good choice?

The world may never know, but Aykroyd has been supportive of the new movie and its cast all along, so it’s great to see him getting involved. Maybe he’ll make an appearance as the ghost of Ghostubsters’ past—or actually just a ghost, but come on; the symbolism is hard to ignore.
