O Rly? Stephen King’s The Dark Tower Reportedly Being Adapted for Film and TV
Sweet summer children.
I feel like we’ve been here before?
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is teaming with MRC to “co-finance” the first in what is intended to be a franchise of films based on Stephen King’s Dark Tower novels, as well as a “complementary” TV series being developed by MRC.
The current draft of the film script is reportedly based on the series’ first book The Gunslinger and focuses on the relationship between Roland and Jake. Deadline says scribes Akiva Goldman (Insurgent) and Jeff Pinkner (Lost, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) have “totally reconceived” the script since Universal abandoned the project.
In a statement, Stephen King sounded confident that The Dark Tower may have actually found a forever home:
I’m excited that The Dark Tower is finally going to appear on the screen. Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my books.
Deadline says casting likely won’t begin until a director is attached, but names rumored for the long-beleaguered project in the past have included Javier Bardem and Russell Crowe (I’d love if Matthew McConaughey extended his time as Randall Flagg to include the Dark Tower, too).
What do you think, gang? Do you trust that The Dark Tower may have actually found a home at last?
