Days of Future Past Might Have Peter Dinklage as the Creator of the Sentinels, Will Have 3D Richard Nixon

We might have just found out who Peter Dinklage is playing in X-Men: Days of Future Past: Bolivar Trask, creator of the giant mutant-hunting robot Sentinels.

The news comes courtesy of MTV Geek!, which got the news from “a tipster who prefers to remain anonymous, but is extremely reliable.” So take the news with a grain of salt. But we already heard that Sentinels might be in Days of Future Past, and Variety reported soon after Bryan Singer confirmed Dinklage’s casting that the actor would be playing the “main antagonist.” So Bolivar Trask fits.

MTV Geek! has a rundown on who Trask is in the comics for the unfamiliar. He’s ultimately more a morally complex character than an outright villain, which makes me excited to see Dinklage play him. (Though, really, who wouldn’t I be excited to see Dinklage play?)

Trask showed up briefly in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by an actor who looks nothing like Dinklage, but I don’t think that makes much of a difference. If it comes to maintaining The Last Stand‘s continuity vs casting Peter Dinklage, you go with the latter, no question. It’s a bit too late for the X-Franchise to start caring about continuity anyways.

As far as Days of Future Past is concerned, our brains have been on overload here at TMS because of Peter Dinklage (it happens), but there are a few other tidbits of note. Namely:

  • Singer has confirmed that, as previously rumored, the movie will take place in the ’70s, approximately ten years after the end of First Class.
  • Richard Nixon will make an appearance.
  • Days of Future Past, unlike all previous X-Men movies, will be in 3D. Sorry, 3D haters. But at least Singer shooting it in 3D and not post-converting, so… yay? Whatever, I plan on seeing a 2D screening anyway.
