Deadpool the Musical 2: Ultimate Disney Parody is the Best Thing You’ll Watch All Weekend
But when is the soundtrack coming out?
The team behind Deadpool the Musical are back with a brilliant new short that brings Deadpool into the Disney film canon. In this fan film, Deadpool kills, dances, quips and sings parodies of several classic Disney princess melodies, including “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid, “You’re Welcome” from Moana, and “A Whole New World” from Aladdin.
The short follows the Merc with the Mouth as he tries (unsuccessfully) to join the X-Men and the Avengers, before being kicked out of both teams. For a fan film, the short effortlessly captures the style and fight scenes of Deadpool, with Michael Parker reprising his shockingly good Ryan Reynolds impression. Like the series it spoofs, Deadpool the Musical 2 is filled with quips, dirty jokes, and fourth wall-breaking character asides (my favorite moment is when he asks Jubilee why she’s played by a different Asian actress in every X-men film- and then casts two different actresses to play her in the short). Deadpool finally finds himself a team when he goes to Canada and joins up with Alpha Flight members Puck and Sasquatch.
The musical ends with a massive fight involving the X-Men, the Avengers, Captain Marvel, Jessica Jones, Spiderman, and several other characters joining forces. Deadpool also reveals his new squad, made up entirely of Disney princesses. It’s also got some solid jokes about the impending Disney/Fox merger, as well as an ending tag that shows Deadpool snorting the Snaptured remains of the fallen heroes.
The short follows up last year’s viral hit Deadpool the Musical, which won a Webby award. Both shorts were directed by Julian Higgins and produced by Zamurai films. This short has us thinking, why hasn’t there been a musical number in a Deadpool movie? I think that Celine Dion opener in Deadpool 2 is as close as we are going to get.
