Deep-Fried Gadgets Shock Us, Make Us Slightly Hungry
Holy crap, someone deep-fried an iPad! Why would they do that? They didn’t really do it, right? What else did they deep-fry?
No, they didn’t really deep-fry an iPad, unfortunately. Artist and photographer Henry Hargreaves made replicas of the gadgets from foamcore, and deep-fried those. Hargreaves clarified: “I didn’t have deep enough pockets to get the real thing, nor did I care to find out what happens when a lithium battery is dunked in 400°F oil!”
That was probably a good call. A boring call, yes, but a good one, especially since the last attempt to deep-fry and eat a PSP didn’t go so well.
So, what was that all about? Hargreaves explained himself thusly: “I like to play with food and the juxtaposition of different worlds. Also I see similarities between tech culture and fast food. Quickly devoured and then discarded.”
Here’s a quick slideshow of deep-fried technology for your devouring pleasure. More on Hargreaves’ site if you’re still hungry.
