Guillermo del Toro Updates His Justice League Project From WonderCon
This is just like magic!
We have another update on Guillermo del Toro’s Justice League film, featuring DC Comics’ magic characters, thanks to the director’s visit to WonderCon this past weekend.
What we know is this. Del Toro says he’s definitely working on the film, tentatively titled Dark Universe but it’s yet to be greenlit. He also has a writer on board but won’t reveal who it is. Though another time he spoke about the project he said, “I think people are going to be happy with who we have chosen.”
At a panel promoting Pacific Rim, the topic eventually turned to Dark Universe. Here’s what he said:
On Justice League Dark, or Dark Universe, what we’re doing is we finished the bible. Then we’re going to start the screenplay with a writer we hope we can announce very soon. What I’m doing is the lead character that guides us through that is Constantine. Blonde. He is basically trying to recruit these guys. On Etrigan, I’m using Jason Blood in the time of Merlin. We get to their origin through the story. We don’t make the origin story at the top. We find it out as they each have mysteries to solve. Swamp Thing is at peace with who he is, but Deadman still needs to figure out who shot him. It’s all woven in. When I was a kid, my two favorite characters in the whole DC Universe were Etrigan and Swamp Thing, so I’m in heaven.
Unfortunately, we’ve still got a ways to go for this one. SuperheroHype says del Toro won’t start work on Dark Universe (based loosely on DC’s current Justice League Dark title) for real until after Crimson Peak, which is still in pre-production.
