The Destroyer Trailer Is Here and It’s Nicole Kidman’s Time

I would watch 4 hours of Nicole Kidman just sitting in a chair if you asked me to.

Nicole Kidman has proved herself time and time again, and Destroyer is no different—a movie that many are saying will win Nicole Kidman her second Academy Award. Erin Bell (Kidman) just wanted a life free from the wars she found herself in. A police officer, she winds up in the middle of a bank robbery gone bad, and her life choices have continual strain on her own wellbeing, as well as her relationships.

The trailer leaves very few clues as to what exactly this movie is about. We know that she used to be a cop, that she has a daughter, and that, at some point, she was in love with Sebastian Stan (which is high-key relatable). From the buzz out of the Toronto International Film Festival, as well as the BFI London Film Festival, for everyone gearing up to watching Nicole Kidman take on a new role, this is a movie that we’re all itching to see.

Erin is a complicated character, and there shouldn’t really be anything amazing about that, but it’s still sadly rare to see Hollywood give complex leading roles to actresses as they get older. If Erin were a man, no one would be surprised to see someone like Josh Brolin take up such a role, but we live in a society where most of the time, women don’t get “interesting” roles overall, let alone when they’re in their fifties.

Nicole Kidman, though, has found a new stride in her career. With an Emmy and a Golden Globe win for her role as Celeste Wright in Big Little Lies, she continues to prove her staying power and, to be honest, I’m here for putting Nicole Kidman in everything for the rest of time.

The consensus on the internet is that this is Nicole Kidman’s movie, and we all can’t wait to see her shine.

Karyn Kusama directed what seems to be an amazing tale of Erin’s complicated existence as an L.A. detective. Here’s the thing: We don’t have much to go on, and to be quite honest, that’s great marketing. What we see in the trailer is just Nicole Kidman getting that second Oscar and Sebastian Stan looking like he is auditioning for the role of a Southside Serpent on Riverdale.

Destroyer hits theaters on December 25th in New York and Los Angeles, with a wider release to come in January.
