New Details On X-Men: Days of Future Past Casting & Apocalypse Plot
Mutatis Mutandis
Considering filming is finished and we’ve already had a first trailer, you’d think we’d be done hearing about casting for X-Men: Days of Future Past. If you did, you’d be wrong. Find out about the inclusion of an unexpected character as well as some new details Bryan Singer has given about the next X-Men film, Apocalypse.
First up is Days of Future Past since, you know, it’s out this May. MTV News spoke with actor Evan Jonigkeit about his role in the film, which apparently he was cleared to reveal? Who knows? He did and it’s not a huge deal but it is a little surprising.
Jonigkeit is playing a younger version of Toad, a character that hasn’t been seen since the original “X-Men” movie in 2000, when Ray Park played him. Reintroducing Toad is a significant step toward setting up the events of that original movie and may suggest that the Michael Fassbender’s Magneto will establish the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the upcoming “First Class” sequel.
No time for Rogue, though. Nope.
As for the character’s look, Jonigkeit said, “The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that…It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”
Director Singer talked to Entertainment Weekly about the announced follow-up to Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse. “I’m co-writing the story and I’m producing it,” he told them. “I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it.”
And what about the story? He’s mostly staying vague. “Something that happens in [Days of Future Past] causes what’s going to happen in that movie,” he said, adding that Apocalypse “will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.”
