Disney XD Announces New LEGO Star Wars Show, The Freemaker Adventures
Disney knows that you can never have enough Star Wars in your life. They announced today that there’s a new LEGO Star Wars show coming to Disney XD this summer. Introducing LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures!
The show is a comedy that will introduce new heroes and villains while also allowing viewers to see familiar faces from the Star Wars universe. As reported over at /Film, here’s the official description:
Told in the whimsically-charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact – the Kyber Saber – his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.
The show is being developed by Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar), and Torsten Jacobson (LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales). Jill Wilbert (The LEGO Movie) is Executive Producing and the show is being produced by Carrie Beck (Star Wars Rebels), Jason Cosler (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!), Jake Blais and John McCormack. Sounds like a great group of talented folks from animation that are capable of bringing both what we’ve come to expect from a Star Wars story and the charm and fun of the LEGO version of this saga.
Beck, who is also Lucasfilm’s VP of animation, is excited about The Freemaker Adventures, because she loves that the show will “bring all new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe.” She goes on:
We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.
I’m a sucker for stories about the “average people” in sagas like this. Like, What’s everyone else doing while our heroes are having adventures? So, I may have to give this a whirl.
Will you be checking out The Freemaker Adventures this summer?
