Whovians Rejoice! The Next Two Doctor Who Seasons Won’t Take Midseason Breaks

Seriously, every other show, can we all just stop with the split seasons already?

Get out your party hats (fezzes), everyone! The first two seasons of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who run will allow us to enjoy the entire season straight through for the first time in years (outside of post-season DVR binge-rewatching). We still have to wait that painful week between episodes, but we’ll take what we can get.

Showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed in a Doctor Who Magazine interview that the days of annoying mid-season cliffhangers are over for the forseeable future, saying, “We’re not going to do splits, and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that — so it will be the traditional form.”

We find this extremely exciting, because we really have no interest in waiting to get all of the Capaldi-Doctor we can handle, and all the burning questions like “when will he change out of Matt Smith’s clothes?”, “what will his personality be like?”, and “just what color are his kidneys?” will come to us with no unnecessary waiting.

Additionally, Moffat said both seasons 8 and 9 will have aired by the end of 2015, so it doesn’t look like the switch back to full seasons will cause any delays in production.

As Tor points out, the removal of the split is probably the best way to let everyone get to know Capaldi’s Doctor all at once, especially since he’s supposed to be very different from the goofy mad-man-with-a-box of Smith and Tennant. The next era in Doctor Who just keeps getting more exciting.
