Our Dreams of Flying the TARDIS Finally Come True in a Doctor Who VR Experience

Doctor Who season 11 episode 1 review

My dreams of flying the TARDIS are finally here! Well, in a VR experience from the BBC for Doctor Who, but still, we’re flying the TARDIS nonetheless. We can get ready, hear that infamous TARDIS whir, and prepare to go on an adventure like never before!

For so many of us, we’re itching for more Doctor Who! Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor became a fan favorite and many of us love watching her take on the bad guys and travel all of time and space with Gramham, Ryan, and Yaz. Unfortunately, we’re not going to see her again until 2020, when the show returns for its twelfth season.

I mean, sure, you have to be in the U.K. right now to get the VR experience, as users there can download it onto two formats, but still, it’s exciting:

  • 13-minute interactive version from Oculus Store and Vive Port for use on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive
  • 11-minute 360-degree adaptation from BBC VR App for use on Oculus Go and GearVR

And if you don’t have a VR headset, don’t sorry! The team is working on traveling with the experience for fans to come out and see what Doctor Who: The Runaway is all about! You can see the trailer for the experience here:

Do I want to run away in the TARDIS with the Doctor? Of course I do! That’s a childhood dream come true! We just don’t know when we can download this fun adventure in the United States yet. I can’t wait for it, though maybe I’ll steal the TARDIS away for myself and never come back. Verdict still out on that one!
