Scarlet Witch Out, Xavier In For X-Men:DOFP

For those of you who are still shaking your fist at the sky over the events in X-Men III, we have some good news about Days of Future Past!

For fans of Scarlet Witch, we have some bad news.

Want to know the details? Head under the cut!

According to Director Bryan Singer, we may be seeing more not-1960s Xavier than his death would suggest. How? Check out this quote from the article at Superhero Hype:

Having said he was disappointed he couldn’t bring Cyclops back for the film, he revealed that he could justify the return of Xavier because “he transferred his consciousness and could possibly construct a body around that consciousness.”

Ahh, the old “body is gone but the mind is still there” death-averter. Crafty, Singer. It’ll be nice having Professor X back (in some capacity) for the new films, particularly because his return was suggested at the end of X-Men III but never given real conclusive closure– until now, apparently.

We’ve already gotten confirmation that Quicksilver will definitely be in the upcoming movie, but that begs the question: “where is the Scarlet Witch?” Well, apparently she’s not going to be in DOFP, and potentially not in the X-Men franchise in the foreseeable future.

Singer first revealed that the Scarlet Witch will not be present in the film, seemingly making Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters, an only child.

Considering that Quicksilver is usually so closely tied with the Scarlet Witch (seldom do you hear them not mentioned in the same breath) it will be interesting to see how that changes his character. Furthermore, if his iteration is substantially different in X-Men compared to his appearance in the upcoming  Avengers sequel.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will open in theaters on May 23, 2014.
