Double Dare Returns to Nickelodeon With New Episodes, and SOMEONE GET ME MY HELMET!
I cannot tell a lie. Marc Summers was one of my very first celebrity crushes, and I had the Double Dare home game. Getting splattered with all sorts of slime and coming out the nostril of a gigantic nose for prizes? I was into it. So, when I heard that Nickelodeon would be bringing back Double Dare, my heart was filled with not just a little bit of glee.
As reported by Nerdist, Nickelodeon will be airing 40 all-new episodes of the classic kids’ game show beginning this summer! They’ll be announcing a new host in the next few weeks to be Marc Summers’ replacement, though there’s no reason to think that Summers won’t at least put in an appearance. Especially since Nickelodeon announced in a statement that the new show will feature appearances “from blasts from the past” like “long-time Double Dare fans and stars from today.” Interesting …
For those who either forget (how could you?), or never saw the original (I’m sorry!), Double Dare invites two teams to answer trivia questions until they eventually accept competing in some messy (and in some cases, really gross) physical challenges. One team then goes on to the obstacle course, and we’ll apparently have all of our old favorite stops to look forward to in this new version: like the big, bespectacled nose contestants have to pick to find a flag; the human hamster wheel; the giant mouth; and the slimy wringer.
Personally, I’m glad a new generation of kids will get to enjoy the majesty that is Double Dare. My question: will they also be bringing back Family Double Dare, on which parents and kids competed together? Because while I might be too old to compete as a kid, I am absolutely the kind of woman who’d bring a kid onto a game show to get slimed. Maybe this is why I don’t have kids yet. *shrug*
