Another Downton Abbey Star Joins Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella As A Wicked Stepsister
Cautiously Optimistic
Looks as if Kenneth Branagh has found his two evil stepsisters for Cinderella, and one of them will get the chance to torment their Downton Abbey co-star Lily James.
Maybe Branagh is looking to score a guest-starring role on the hit British show. Either that, or he just knows talent when he sees it. With James already cast in the lead role of Cinderella in the film, it was time to find the rest of her family.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying Downton star Sophie McShera will likely be one of Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters. It will certainly be a departure for McShera, who plays the ever-sweet Daisy on the series. The actress will join Holliday Grainger to play sisters Drizella and Anastasia, says THR. Grainger is most recently credited for playing Lucrezia on The Borgias.
Cinderella is already populated with Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden, playing the prince, and Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother. We’re still eagerly anticipating what direction the film will take.
