This Site Visualizes the Wind Around the World

Now do ones for Fire, Water, Earth, and Heart, and we can form Captain Planet.

Ever wanted to see a real-time visualization of the air currents anywhere on Earth? Well now you can. This tool hosted at Nullschool.net lets you pan and zoom around a virtual globe and overlay animations of wind at different heights, or even switch to view ocean currents instead. It’s kind of hypnotic.

We learned about the site this morning when Chris Hadfield tweeted about it.

Here’s a look at Hurricane Arthur which was upgraded from a tropical storm this morning.

By playing around with the settings by clicking the word “Earth” on the page, you can get different views.
