Ordeal by Innocence Recasts Ed Westwick and Schedules Reshoots Following Sexual Assault Allegations
More sexual predators and harassers are being outed and expelled from the industry, and just as Kevin Spacey was replaced with Christopher Plummer in All the Money in the World and Louis C.K. is being dubbed over for his voice-acting roles, so too is actor Ed Westwick getting recast so viewers won’t have to look at his face.
Best known for his role on Gossip Girl, Westwick was set to act in the BBC One Christmas drama and Agatha Christie adaptation Ordeal by Innocence. Now, the project is set to reshoot scenes with Christian Cooke as his replacement. Variety writes:
“The three-part series, co-produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited, will reshoot all of Westwick’s scenes later this month in Scotland with Cooke and other cast members including Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, Matthew Goode and Eleanor Tomlinson.”
Kristina Cohen was the first to come forward in a Facebook post accusing Ed Westwick of raping her three years ago at his apartment. Not long afterwards, a woman named Aurélie Wynn also came forward to allege Westwick assaulted her in 2014. Westwick has publicly denied the allegations on Instagram, stating he did not know Cohen and “certainly have never committed rape.” It was reported Westwick was undergoing investigation for sexual assault after a report of sexual assault was filed, possibly by Cohen.
Ordeal by Innocence was set to air on December 26, but was not included in the schedules after Cohen and Wynn came forward. The BBC called the news “serious allegations” and stated they would not be making any judgement “until these matters are resolved.” Another project Westwick was involved in, the series White Gold, is also currently suspended.
