The Election Day Pic Meme Is Our Collective Coping Mechanism (Seriously, Vote)

Recommended Videos

Hey! Did you know there are elections today in the United States? There are! No, they haven’t yet all been canceled and replaced with a reality show where a man who was born into wealth pretends to be good at identifying the necessary qualities for success. Yes, it has indeed been (about) a year since we all already did a meme about how we’d changed overnight, and now it’s time to look at how we’ve changed in a year.

Wait, it’s only been one year? Hard to believe though it may be, yes, we’ve only been living this (particular stage of the) nightmare for one year, although the ridiculous pace of horrible news has mentally aged us all like we got thrown all the way to the bottom level in Inception for the whole time. Here’s a look at just how much older and more world weary everyone feels—although first, a public service announcement: vote.

Seriously, vote.

Consider this a practice run for next year, when we can replace the entire, awful U.S. House of Representatives if we want to. Or just consider it important, since state and local governments matter. You may have a new mayor to pick. New Jersey and Virginia will even have new governors tomorrow. Here’s a list of all the municipal elections going down around the country. Last year, the number of people who didn’t vote could have picked their entire own president. They all could have written in Seymour Butts, and we’d all have an equally effective yet much funnier president.

Anyway, here’s a bunch of jokes from the internet:
