In addition to researching diseases in plants and animals, Maryland’s Beltsville Agricultural Research Center uses electron microscopes to study snow, the structure of which it says “is vital to several areas of science as well as to activities that affect our daily lives.” It also looks almost otherworldly when seen up close.
