Things We Saw Today: Elf Gets the Honest Trailer Treatment
Plus Star Wars, Michael B. Jordan and more!
Screen Junkies returns with an all-new (throwback) Honest Trailer for 2003’s Christmas comedy classic, Elf. The Will Ferrell comedy not only made the SNL star a bankable leading man, but it also launched the directing career of Jon Favreau, paving the way for him to take the reins on massive films like Ironman and The Jungle Book.
The trailer goofs on Buddy the elf’s unlikely origin story, likening him the Joker, before poking fun at Zooey Deschanel’s love interest who basically falls in love with a mental child. But even the folks at Honest Trailers can’t take down a movie as relentlessly silly and fun as Elf, saying, “what, you think I was gonna savage Elf? This movie is delightful, I’m not a monster.” Still, they get in plenty of good jokes, including calling Zooey Deschanel’s character a “manic pixie’s dream girl” and referring to Ed Asner’s Santa as Jeff Bezos.
Seriously though, Elf is a new classic, and easily one of the best holiday films of the 2000s. What makes your list for best modern holiday movies?
