Elizabeth Olsen On What She Loves About Scarlet Witch
Mutatis Mutandis
Elizabeth Olsen is our Wanda for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and she’s endearingly enthusiastic about sinking her teeth into the role.
Olsen told Moviefone:
I hung out with Mr. [Joss] Whedon recently. I’m really excited about this movie. I’m so excited about Scarlet Witch. I have had so much fun reading all about her and I am like learning new words that I had to look up on Wikipedia. I’m really enjoying it.
When asked what she was most excited about for the film, Olsen replied:
I just love Scarlet Witch. I love her. It’s so funny because I’m often talking about all these psychologically damaged people, but when you talk about Scarlet Witch… She is a messed up lady. She has got more sh*t to deal with than anybody else I know. I’m excited to figure out what’s appropriate to use for her, because there’s so much material from all of these decades, and we’re going to tell this one story. So to be able to choose what you’re going to bring into it from all of this abundance, it’s really fun.
Between this and Olsen’s comments to TMS earlier this month that she was “having a field day right now reading comics,” I think this woman is well on her way to becoming my favorite person ever. It’s always nice to see actors who are willing to delve into source material, and Olsen’s got that baby-geek excitement of somebody who just wandered into a comic book store for the first time and realized it’s awesome.
My personal experience with the character is mostly limited to “Billy and Tommy’s birth mom (kinda) who almost married Doctor Doom that one time,” being a Young Avengers gal through and through, but for those of you with the Scarlet Witch on your Please Don’t Screw It Up List, Elizabeth Olsen is on your side. When an actor really cares about the character as much as you do, the hardest part is over, and you can sit back and relax knowing that things are in good hands.
Now, we are simply left to ponder what exactly her headband will look like as the 2015 release of Age of Ultron slowly approaches.
