Collider’s Steve Weintraub sat down with Captain America: Civil War stars Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner recently to discuss their roles in the film, but in many ways, the two actors are just as in the dark about the movie as we are.

At the time of the interview, neither actor had seen Civil War yet, and both of them explained that the movie required so many moving parts, they had to focus on their own characters and scenes and trust the Russo brothers to assemble the larger picture (Renner describes flipping frantically through page after page when first reading the script in an attempt to find Clint’s comparatively few lines).

Obviously, there’s a lot the two also couldn’t say yet for fear of spoilers, but Elizabeth Olsen did explain what it was like to grow the relationship between Vision and Scarlet Witch: “I think we were trying to root their relationship in something that’s more based from Ultron and how their characters have developed within the actual films as opposed to the comics, because in the comics it’s a whole other world.”

She went on to say that Vision and Scarlet Witch find common ground on which to offer each other support: “it’s a relationship or friendship or support that we wanted to make continue, so we focused on how they’re both powered by something similar, and how that connects them, and how they can learn from one another. So it was really nice to have these kind of sweet, intimate scenes with Paul [Bettany ], and working with Paul is so much fun, so those were such great days on set for me, because we just got to do scene work.”

Obviously that’s not a lot to go on, but it is intriguing to me to hear Olsen describe Vision and Scarlet Witch’s dynamic as a “friendship,” and it sounds like, no matter what goes down between the two, it will be based on a foundation of mutual respect. I could keep speculating about what their relationship will look like, but that seems a little silly given that within the week we’ll know all the particulars. Oh, God. Less than one week.
