DLC to Give the Bioshock Franchise Its First Playable Female Character
Good News Everyone!
And according to lead writer Ken Levine, it’s all because this is what the fans asked for.
Irrational Games, the makers of Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, have released DLC for their highly anticipated, top-selling game today, Clash in the Clouds, a combat focused addition to gameplay (but one that also fleshes out the backstory of fan-favorite female character Rosalind Lutece), but they’ve also announced an upcoming piece of DLC that promises to return characters to a very familiar place indeed.
That’s right. Underwater noir for everybody! From Kotaku:
The two-part Burial at Sea will drop the lead characters of Infinite into the iconic city from the first BioShock game, in the middle of what looked like a noir-inflected mystery. Levine promised that you’ll be seeing some familiar faces from the underwater city’s tortured history… Burial at Sea will cost $20 for both parts, $15 each, and the BioShock Infinite Season Pass is available for $19.99 (1600 Microsoft Points).
In a gameplay genre where AI controlled support characters are often considered laughable in utility and integration, Elizabeth stood out as a well crafted character both in writing and mechanics, playing a role in the story of Bioshock Infinite as central, if not more central, than the player character, Booker DeWitt’s. It’s no wonder that folks were wondering when they’d ever get to play as her, instead of alongside her. This will make her the first playable female lead in a Bioshock game.
