LEGO Batman Gets Into The Holiday Spirit in Emmet’s Holiday Party Short
The short film gives us a sneak peek at The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part may not be coming out until February 2019, but that doesn’t mean that our favorite master builders can’t get in on some holiday fun. Warner Bros. dropped a new festive short, Emmet’s Holiday Party, that features the citizens of Apocalypseburg (formerly Bricksburg) gathering together for a holiday party.
Emmet gets the idea to throw a holiday party, despite Lucy’s protests, as she doesn’t want to draw anymore Duplo attention to their wasteland of a town. Despite her warnings, Emmet builds an ice-skating rink and a Christmas tree so big and bright it can be seen from space. The tree captures the attention of interstellar baddies General Sweet Mayhem (Stephanie Beatriz) and Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi (Tiffany Haddish) of the Sistar system. They send down an adorable baby star to top the tree, but if you’ve seen the trailer for the sequel you know that said star may not be as harmless as it appears.
The official synopsis for the sequel reads:
The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part,” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are now facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than it can be rebuilt. The battle to defeat the invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet (Chris Pratt), Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Batman (Will Arnett) and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
We also get a glimpse of our favorite DC heroes decorating the tree, with Wonder Woman using her golden lasso and Green Lantern hanging up several (you guessed it) green lanterns. Once again, Will Arnett steals the show as LEGO Batman, who takes a break from his brooding to enjoy some eggnog, which he calls “this sweet nectar of joy”. Batman tears up at the tree lighting, saying “I like darkness, this isn’t (sob) super beautiful.”
We also get an angry Batman complaining to Alfred that his ugly Christmas sweater only has eight abs. The LEGO movies have consistently displayed a charming irreverence, and the sequel’s first trailer has already shown that its more than willing to make fun of its own leading man, Chris Pratt. It looks like The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will be just as offbeat as its 2014 predecessor. Also, shout out to the LEGO menorah and Kwanzaa cameos, we see you, holiday celebrations that aren’t Christmas!
