There’s an Enchanted Sequel in the Works and It Already Has Writers

I've been dreaming of a true love's reboot?

Movie insiders have been praising the possible franchise power of Enchanted before it was even released back in 2007, but the long-believed-inevitable sequel appeared to have been stuck in development limbo ever since. This year, however, it seems like things are ramping up.

In February, Disney hired Jessie Nelson (The Story of Us, I Am Sam) to write the screenplay and Anne Fletcher (Step Up, The Proposal) to direct. Now Deadline is reporting that J. David Stem and David N. Weiss (Shrek 2, The Smurfs) will be writing up a new draft of the script instead, with Fletcher still on board to direct.

Weirdly, none of the creative team from the previous film have signed on, including screenwriter Bill Kelly, director Kevin Lima, or any of the actors. But Fletcher is a former choreographer who has tons of experience working with dancers, which is pretty much perfect for a movie musical. Plus, it’s not as if the actors from the first Enchanted movie aren’t going to jump on board eventually, right? And now that Idina Menzel is practically a household name (save for people who only know her from her Oscars performance, perhaps), maybe the movie will be about her character adjusting to life in Andalasia instead. I would pay good money to see that.
