Facebook Can Now Hide Your Ex After a Breakup, Thus Making Facebook Pointless
It's (significantly less) complicated.
Facebook will now negate the entire point of its existence by offering to hide your ex after a breakup. Now the only question is, “What will you do with all your newfound free time?” Actually, you’ll still be able to go to your ex’s Facebook page, so the new feature isn’t likely to curb your most self-destructive impulses, but at least you can better avoid potentially painful or awkward memories.
Of course, you can already hide posts and activity by individuals directly in your news feed, but based on the number of Facebook arguments between people who are “friends” but not really friends, the feature isn’t obvious enough for most people. Now, when you change your relationship status to “single,” Facebook will directly offer to hide posts by and about the person with whose statuses you will now only like, not like like.
But perhaps even better than a feature to keep your mind off of what your ex is doing, it’ll also allow you to block them from seeing your stuff—whether you do this is a courtesy to shield them from your awesome new life or for other reasons us up to you:
The new feature also includes options to hide past posts that have both of you tagged all at once or go through them each individually to decide what to keep public. Facebook says that these measures are in the interest of helping people end relationships on Facebook more easily—though we don’t recommend that you actually end your relationships using Facebook. That’s just cold.
