Facebook Finally Giving Us the Dislike Button We’ve Been Waiting For

LIKE! I mean...

Finally. After oodles of changes for Change’s sake, Facebook is working on a change we’ve actually been wanting for a while. Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Facebook is working on a “dislike” button.

At a recent Q&A at Facebook headquarters, Zuckerberg explained that at first, he didn’t want Facebook to become like Reddit with “like” and “dislike” becoming a way to “upvote” or “downvote” friends’ posts. He’s since realized however, that people simply want a “dislike” button so that they can express varying emotions. In situations like supporting a friend when a loved one dies, or responding to a friend’s post about injustice in the world, “liking” isn’t quite appropriate. According to Business Insider, Zuckerberg said that, “What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment.”

Indeed. If I could “like” this particular Facebook status, I would.
