News Flash: ReadWriteWeb is not the Facebook Login Page
The result? Thousands of people Googling “facebook login” thought that ReadWriteWeb was, in fact, the new Facebook login page, and hundreds left comments using (what else) Facebook Connect.
Here are just a few:
- “You reallllly don’t want to know what I think. I was doing pretty good until now. I want a nice EASY login like I had before!!!!!” (link)
- “How do I login to Facebook? what’s the new url :P” (link)
- “I TRULY DON’T KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON BUT I FEEL LIKE CURSING SOMEBODY OUT!!!!!! I CAN’T EVEN GET TO MY WALL OR ANYTHING !!!! I FEEL LIKE I’V BEEN PUNKED PUT IT BACK LIKE IT WAS!!! YA’LL ACT LIKE YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN TO COURT OR SOMETHING ,I DON’T HAVE THIS KINDA TIME TO BE FOOLING ARROUND ALL I WANT TO DO IS GAIN ACCESS TO MY FACEBOOK PAGE WHAT’S REALLY UP????????” (link)
- “i was just getting used to useing the old one why do you guys change it we liked it the way it was please put it back. thank u” (link)
- I am going to delete my account (IF I CAN EVER LOG IN) as this SUCKS BIG TIME ! If this does not get back to NORMAL you are going to lose a lot of folks who hate this and as you can see from all the comments they think it sucks too !!! facebook was great for connecting with old friends …now, NOT SO MUCH. SO HOW DO I LOG IN ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? (link)
…visualize hundreds more, with regular RWW readers looking on and tut-tutting and a few trolls trying to fan the flames. ReadWriteWeb actually posted this update in response:
Dear visitors from Google. This site is not Facebook. This is a website called ReadWriteWeb that reports on news about Facebook and other Internet services. You can however click here and become a Fan of ReadWriteWeb on Facebook, to receive our updates and learn more about the Internet. To access Facebook right now, click here. For future reference, type “facebook.com” into your browser address bar or enter “facebook” into Google and click on the first result. We recommend that you then save Facebook as a bookmark in your browser.
Well, that clears things up. ReadWriteWeb has since been bumped down to “facebook login” search result #7, by the way.
