Careful! Facebook Scammers Like to Capitalize on New Features, Video Calling
Beware, there is/was a fake video calling app on the loose on Facebook. So if you haven’t activated video calling yet, make sure you’re doing what you think you are. The fake app hijacks your account to post links back to itself, not the worst thing in the world, but annoying to say the least. If you want to activate video calling the real way, simply hop on over to facebook.com/videocalling and if you want to pick up something that will take your personal information and do sketchy things with it, don’t worry, you already have a Facebook account. ZING! But really, the fake video calling app which prompts a screen like the one above, appears to have been removed.
Nonetheless, this stands as a good reminder for us all. Read everything before clicking allow, because some apps, like this one, will ask you for permission to access things they have no right or reason to access. You might have missed out on the fake video calling app, but it wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last. Remember: Only you can prevent forest fires, and also avoid bogus apps.
