The Fiber Optic Knife

Master knapper Mike Cook handmade this knife from fiber optic glass. FiOS, or emerald-green blade? Not even a competition.

Such a blade might be a little dicey for actual use — most optical fiber makes use of silica, which is a hard enough material, but we’d be worried about brittleness — but it’s a beautiful blend of the primitive and the high-tech.
