All the Cosplay That We Loved at Flame Con, the World’s Largest Queer Comic Con
We spent the weekend at Flame Con, a place of total joy, awesome panels, incredible merch, and super-creative cosplayers.
I’ve been covering Flame Con since their inception four years ago, and while the Con has always been a well-run and delightful affair, it’s exciting to see how much it has grown. Somehow, the geniuses at Geeks Out manage to step this thing up every year and expand its scale, without losing the sense of a safe, warm, welcoming community where you can be yourself amongst like-minded people.
The Mary Sue ran two panels at this year’s Flame Con, focused on Asexuality in Media and the LGBTQ+ History of Fanfiction. We had a great time and loved meeting the attendees at our panels (we’ll be sure to give you more details about what we talked about soon).
Throughout the weekend, we kept finding cosplayers that made us go “Oooh!” Our team on the ground—Princess Weekes, Rachel Leishman, and yours truly—pooled our combined pics. Here’s what we saw:
Allura from Voltron: Legendary Defender
Archer from Archer
Cosima from Orphan Black
Prince Serenity from Sailor Moon
Misty from Pokemon
Wakandan Storm from X-Men
Sakura from Card Captor Sakura
Worf from Star Trek
Utena and Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena
Hela from Thor: Ragnarok
Bulma from Dragonball and our very own Princess Weekes
Milo from Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Billy from Stranger Things
Aladdin from Aladdin
Bucky Barnes in Wakanda from Black Panther / Avengers: Infinity War
Lady Loki
Mars Attacks!
Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess
Admiral Holdo from Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Thor!
Were you at Flame Con? If you didn’t make it this year, try for next. It’s really something special.
