The Star of Original The Flash Series Is Gonna Play Barry Allen’s Dad In The New Show
That's just adorable.
Remember in the early ’90s when CBS tried to make a TV version of The Flash starring John Wesley Shipp? Yeah. It didn’t take so well, lasting not even a season before it was unceremoniously cancelled due to poor ratings and a bad time slot. But now Shipp’s going to get another chance to associate himself with the fastest man alive — as his dad.
“Given his history with The Flash, Andrew[Kreisberg], Geoff [Johns] and I could only think of one person we wanted to play Barry’s father and that was John Wesley Shipp,”executive producer Greg Berlanti said to The Hollywood Reporter, who confirmed the casting of Shipp as Henry Allen last night. “He gives a fantastic and emotional performance in the pilot and we are looking forward to his presence in many more episodes.”
Can you imagine how awesome it would be if this sort of thing was done on the regular with superhero reboots? Like if they cast Lynda Carter as Hippolyta or something? Of course, they’d have to actually film an origin story for Wonder Woman for that to — you know what? Not even gonna go there. The Flash looks very fun and awesome so far and we would like to reward that kind of creative decision rather than rag on DC for their other ones. Yes! Make more happy things!
