Somebody turn on that *NSYNC song about Friday night and let's have a party.

It’s Friday, so it’s time for us to find you a new Twitter feed to follow as part of #FollowFriday. This week, we’re talking about Mallory Ortberg, co-founder of The Toast and writer extraordinaire.

Who She Is

Ortberg and Nicole Cliffe co-founded The Toast in July of this year. To break down the editorial voice of The Toast is a complicated task: at best, we can describe it as a melting pot of feminist discourse, literature, pop culture, and humor. It’s not uncommon to see a very serious personal narrative about drunk driving next to a speculative post full of texts from Lord Byron, immediately followed by a list of all the continuity errors and foreshadowing hidden in Wet Hot American Summer. Needless to say, the site is pretty excellent.

Ortberg has also written for The Hairpin, The Gloss, Atlantic, and several other online outlets.

Why You Should Follow

Even if you’re not somebody who follows “Feminism” with a capital “F” as it manifests on the Internet — which we know some of you aren’t, dear readers, and that’s just fine — there’s no denying that Ortberg has a wonderfully surreal comedic sensibility. In fact, we weren’t all that surprised to find that the official twitter feed for Welcome To Night Vale counts itself among her followers. If you’re a fan of Night Vale, you’re just the type of person who would enjoy reading the stuff that comes out of Ortberg’s brain on a daily basis.

Great Recent Tweets

An errant thought that eventually made it into Ortberg’s Femslash Friday feature for today, in which she outlines the steps needed to hook Inara up with Kaylee from Firefly. Believe us, it’s convincing.

A fair question. We haven’t quite figured out how to do it over here.

We’re sure some of you are feeling this rigt now, writers.

Poetry humor! Who doesn’t love a good joke about William Carlos Williams?
