New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Comic-Con 2015 Reel Teases New Bits of Movie, Practical Effects

In the Hall H Star Wars panel, director J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy showed off a behind the scenes reel of the upcoming box office Death Star, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It focuses on practical effects and their importance to the Star Wars films.

It also provides some very savory teasers about the movie, with some totally Abrams-is-playing-with-you shots of the Millennium Falcon’s bridge, extreme close-ups of the New Order Stormtrooper armor, and Simon Pegg being… well, Simon Pegg.

Perhaps neatest of all is that this reel also features Carrie Fisher on set as Leia totally in costume and taking no shit.

That doesn’t look like Han’s vest, but… can you imagine? Leia wearing Han’s vest around like a letterman’s varsity jacket? Headcanon accepted.

Peter Mayhew summed it up best in the reel when he said, “Get back to the old days. The old ways of doing things.” Given the CG-animated mess that was the prequels, this emphasis on practical effects might just be what sets this upcoming trilogy apart from the past.
