Star Wars Fans Send Toy X-wing to Space in Elaborate Bid for Force Awakens Premiere Tickets

Judge a toy X-Wing by its size, do you?

We Star Wars fans have all heard—and celebrated—by now that J.J. Abrams is all about practical effects and on-location shooting for The Force Awakens, but some fans decided to grab his attention by one-upping him and shooting in the one location he probably still faked: space.

Radio Times reports that British Star Wars fans/amateur astronomers Matt Kingsnorth and Phil St. Pier took about six months and £1200 to send a weather balloon to space with a model X-wing and a camera along for the ride. It may sound like a lot of trouble to go to for a few glorious shots, but they used it to send a message:

Hey J.J. Abrams!

Can we have 2 tickets the VIP premiere of The Force Awakens?

Ordinarily the answer would be no… So we thought we’d try something extraordinary. We know you like practical effects and shooting in real locations. And we really love that there are X-wings in the new film so…

Your move, J.J. Search your feelings. You know what to do.
